Feel Better Blog
Ways to help you feel better every day: mind, body and spirit!
I want to share a message to those of you that feel disenfranchised by religion and faith. Those of you that hear the words God and Jesus and prayer with contempt. I want you to find your own way to connect to the power or spirit or energetic force that inexplicably binds us together. Choose whatever words you want to name that power. Let them be words of love, belonging, and connection. Let them also be words of mystical and inexplicable dimension. May the words you choose have meaning to you so that you can be reminded that we are drawn together of similar and unique fabric. We can create and collaborate, but the connections we develop, both within ourselves to the greater force and to each other, provide the very meaning for our existence.
In church today I got to hear our pastor speak about devising our own prayer. She challenged us to re-write the Lord's prayer to include names and words that felt important to us. And to include reverence for the greater power, gratitude and the ask for what we need. The last, important part is to include those around you within the prayer by making it about we and us and our needs instead of I and me and my needs. I felt a wave of energy flow through me as she spoke about giving my own words to prayer. It was a freeing moment to think of it in these possibilities. Here is what I came up with. I would love to hear your version.
"Oh spirit that connects us, with power and opportunity that names and words cannot fully describe, thank you for the gifts, the struggles, the people, and the connections made possible. May you lead us to develop our gifts, overcome struggle, and bring more people and connection that will deliver happiness, peace, joy and love in our lives. We are enough and even more so when fully connected to your energy, love, and light."
